Noah, Boat Builder

Our Bible Faith Hero is Noah.

Our Word is Number. Number is in the Bible 274 times. There are many numbers where Noah is concerned. But before we get to the numbers, let us remember the story.

Scripture

These are the generations of NoahNoah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. Genesis 6:9.

Read with me the end of Genesis 5: 28-32

And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:

And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the Lord hath cursed.

And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters:

And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.

And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

Thoughts

Genesis 6 begins with how wicked the world is and then there is the nugget that God recognizes Noah’s righteousness.

God is upset with the world, it states that God was sad that he had made the world. Yet this one man and his family catches the eye of God.

Beloved, these words in Genesis 6 mean something,

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. Genesis 6:8-9.

God has a plan and Noah does not question the plan. Operation Noah: God will bring flood waters to destroy the earth, what is needed is a vessel and God tells Noah build me a boat. Now it had never rained much less flooded.

Noah listens to God and begins to build the boat.

Lessons Learned

Noah’s strengths is that he walked with God, he listened to God, he found grace from God, he is righteous in the eyes of God. Noah was a farmer, he becomes a zoo keeper, he hears the voice of God and shares the message, so he is a preacher.

How does he point towards Christ? Both were redeemers. He redeemed his family and saved the world, Jesus redeemed the world.

At the end of Genesis 6 we read, Noah did all that God commanded him to do.

Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he. Genesis 6: 22.

Conclusion

God shuts the door of the ark. More tomorrow. We will discuss the numbers.

Father God, let us find grace in your eyes. In Jesus’ name. Amen

What part of Noah’s testimony, would you like to emulate?
