Ruth, Week 3, Day 5

Introduction

I was seventeen when I became engaged. I still had a year of high school before I could marry Doug. I was a stronger Christian than Doug so we had to work at keeping our love pure.  There were challenging times until we were married a month after I graduated.

Ruth, Week 3, Day 5

Reading and Assignment

Ruth 3: 14-18, 1 Thessalonians 4: 3-4, SOAP Ruth 3: 14-15

Scripture

And she lay at his feet until the morning: and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the floor. Also he said, Bring the vail that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her: and she went into the city” (Ruth 3: 14-15, KJV).

Observation

Ruth remains loyal to God and Naomi. Boaz remains loyal to God. He gives her much barley. Ruth followed Naomi’s instructions to the letter.

Application

What is God asking you to do that may be out of your comfort zone? Remain pure in your engagement when the world says premarital sex is okay? What fear are you facing? The fear of rejection can be hurtful, but with Christ, you can do anything.

Prayer

Father God, thank you for your word. The example of Ruth teaches us that there is a life after being widowed. That one can be in a tempting situation and not give into temptation. Thank you for teaching us about generosity. That we can not outgive you. Praising you for what you want to do in our lives if we will daily walk with you. That you go before us and prepare the way and that you meet all of our needs. Please meet our needs Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Conclusion

Reading the commentaries, Ruth is asking Boaz to marry her by leaving him, Boaz is now able to go and see if the other relative was going to step up to the plate. Both of their integrity and reputations were good in the community but more importantly, they were following God’s laws. As young as I was I knew that I needed to remain faithful to God and so my husband and I were both virgins when we married.

What is God asking you to do for Him?

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Philippians 4: 13, KJV)
