Ruth, Week 4, Day 1

Introduction

In Biblical times, if the husband died, then the nearest kinsman or relative was to marry the wife so that the family name carried on and the land was inherited. The nearest relative to Ruth’s husband had not stepped up to the plate. So in today’s scripture, we see Boaz bring this to the attention of the kinsman.

Ruth 4: 1-6, SOAP Ruth 4: 5-6,

Scripture

Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance. And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it.” Ruth 4: 5-6

Observation

The kinsman is giving the opportunity to buy the field and redeem Ruth and Naomi. But he turns down the opportunity.

Application

Do you trust God with the details and desires of your heart?

Prayer

Father God, thank you for caring about our desires. Thank you for working out the details of our life. Thank you that I can trust you with my life. Psalm 37: 4 says that you give us the desires of our hearts. Will you Lord, give us our desires? For the woman with the troubled child, meet her needs. For the woman with a lonely heart, will you meet her needs? For the woman whose husband is unloving, meet her needs Lord. For the woman caring for her elderly parents, meet her needs. We praise you, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Conclusion

God is good, He is good all the time. Beloved, He cares about family drama. He cares when you go to bed so tired from having met your families needs. He notices when you are kind to that critical family member. He loves you unconditionally and wants to give you the desires of your heart.
