28 Day

Saver, saving for a rainy day.

Beloved, our word is saver, not savor. Are you a saver? A saver is defined in the dictionary as someone who regularly saves money through a bank or investment plan. Unfortunately, it is not in the Bible, but the best Biblical story is of Joseph. Joseph knew that a drought was coming, and he was in charge of Eqypt, so he had the country save grain for the years that there would be no grain. God uses the grain in Egypt to reunite his family; eventually, there is a reconciliation.

What are some of the things that you have saved? For example, I have a doll collection. What other things have you saved? Perhaps besides money, one might save cards or stamps. My brother once had a baseball card collection.

Our word today is saved in meaning to save a resource. So the Psalm uses the word save as in rescue me. And in my humor, we could use savor as in taste, but we will not go there. Or we could go saved as in salvation. But it is time for bed after a long day at work, so let’s consider King David’s prayer in Psalm 54.

King David Prayers

Consider Psalm 54

Save me, O God, by Your name,
And [c]vindicate me by Your power.
Hear my prayer, O God;
Give ear to the words of my mouth.
For strangers have risen against me
And violent men have sought my [d]life;
They have not set God before them. [e]Selah.

Behold, God is my helper;
The Lord is [f]the sustainer of my soul.
[g]He will recompense the evil to [h]my foes;
[i]Destroy them in Your [j]faithfulness.

[k]Willingly I will sacrifice to You;
I will give thanks to Your name, O Lord, for it is good.
For [l]He has delivered me from all [m]trouble,
And my eye has looked with satisfaction upon my enemies.

Prayer

Father God, Create in me a clean heart. See if I have any anxiety or worry. Thank you that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Today, I will give thanks in your name, for you have delivered me from all my trouble. Behold, God, you are my helper. In Jesus’s name Amen

What might God be asking you to save? How might you help someone today with your testimony?
