Singing In The Rain

Have you ever been in a flood? I have. I lived in Dodge City Kansas in 1965 and the south end of Dodge City was flooded. The historical Boot Hill that is in the middle of town, I stood at the top of Boot Hill and watched the flood waters. According to the paper, “The very beginning came on June 14 in the Denver area with three days of torrential rain. This caused a wall of water to rush down the front range of the Rockies which inundated roads and railroads, and destroyed homes and bridges in its path.” My dad was a police officer and people would not leave their homes.

Psalm 8:10

Today’s reading Genesis 7-10 and 1 Chronicle 1: 5-23, we read about a flood that was coming. Additionally, it was the first time it had ever rained, the area had been watered from springs. Although Noah had never seen rain and I am sure he was not singing in the rain, Noah obeyed God. He most likely took a year to build an ark. Dr. David Jeremiah says it was more like a box than a boat as we know boats. Noah brought the animals and creatures just as God asked him. God closes the door of the ark.

The world was a mess and God felt there was no redemption so, in His holy judgment, He destroyed the earth and the people on the earth with the exception of the animals, Noah and his family who entered the ark.

The Lord gives a rainbow as a sign that He will not destroy the world this way ever again.

My something old is I have read about the flood and Noah, my something new is that realization that there had never been rained before this encounter with the Lord. My something to do is to be brave like Noah and obey God, remain faithful to His plan for my life.

I loved how systematically Noah released the birds to see if the water had subsided and when it was time to come out of the ark.

What did you enjoy in your reading of Genesis 7-10?

Dodge City rebuilt after the flood of 1965. Noah and his family were given the task to repopulate the world. What is God asking you to do for Him?
